Community Center
The Suburban Club of Haskell was
organized in 1955. The present membership consists of seventeen
talented individuals who enjoy sharing and showing their handcrafts
at monthly meetings in member's homes. A wide variety includes:
sewing, crochet, quilting, crafting, flower arranging, painting,
and home decorating. In 2001 the club applied for the Arkansas
State Highway Department "Adopt-A Spot" Program and
planted flowers in the triangle near Haskell City Hall (see photo
above). Volunteers donated labor, equipment, dirt, plants, stones,
and a sign to create a beauty spot at the highly visible intersection
of Highway 229 and Grand Avenue. The club made additions this
year and maintains the spot by seeding and pruning.
The Suburban Club is presently working
on several improvements at the Haskell Community Center on Elm
Street near the Haskell Ball Fields. The outside of the building
and the signs have been painted. Planter boxes have been placed
on either side of the front door with decorative trim above.
A picket fence has been installed around the Air Conditioner
Unit. Other improvements are planned for the inside, including
decorating the bathrooms and installing a mini kitchen. A Memorial
Sidewalk and Garden are being planted as well. This will provide
an opportunity to honor family, friends, classmates, teachers,
superintendents, pastors, and former citizens of the community.
Also, living persons who have contributed to the betterment of
our community or mankind in some significant way may be honored.
A contribution of $30.00 will purchase
a monogrammed brick as a lasting tribute as well as recognize the
donor. Donations of plants, benches, or other appropriate items
will be accepted for the Community Center. If you wish to be included
in this endeavor, please send a check made payable to Suburban Club,
name of the person you wish to commemorate, and your name to Haskell
City Hall, 2520 Hwy 229, Haskell, AR 72015.
